Chaparral, established in the early 1995 and located in the south-east region of Calgary is a residential neighborhood. It was named because of the Mediterranean climate biome and is situated at the southern corner of the city, south of the Stoney Trail. To the south of the community, it is bordered by 194 Avenue SE, to the east by the Bow River Valley and the west by the Macleod Trail.
The residents of Chaparral enjoy a wide selection of recreational opportunities, the main feature of the community being a 32-acre artificial lake and a park with two waterfalls located within the center of Chaparral.
The Chaparral community has one public elementary school which is the Chaparral Elementary School and one Catholic elementary school which is the Saint Sebastian Elementary School.
